All about behavioral health
Is behavioral health the same as mental health? Not exactly — but the two are closely intertwined. Behavioral health refers to the care of a person’s mental, emotional, and behavioral well-being. Mental health is a big part of total well-being, but it’s not the only part.
Behavioral health also involves lifestyle factors like diet, exercise, sleeping habits, substance use (including drugs and alcohol), and social interactions with others. These all contribute to a person’s total well-being — and they can all be improved with timely intervention and treatment, even at a young age.
Our providers screen for behavioral health issues
Behavioral health screenings are an important part of every well visit at Valle Verde Pediatrics, even before the first signs of puberty begin. These screenings are integrated into routine check-ups from preadolescence through the preteen and teen years, so we can identify issues like anxiety or depression as soon as possible.
During well visits at Valle Verde Pediatrics, your provider will closely observe your child’s behavior and how they interact with others, including body language and eye contact. You or your child may be asked to fill out a mental health questionnaire, and your provider will ask open-ended questions to help assess your child’s well-being. We are here to listen!
