Insurance and Billing
Please call or Email us for information specific to your insurance company and plan.
To better serve our patients, we accept a range of health plans. These include:
- PPO networks
- HMOs under Children's Physicians Medical Group
- Healthy Families
- Medi-cal and Medi-cal managed care plans
- Private indemnity plans
Please review our Financial Policy and make sure that we have the most up to date insurance information for your child, and a recent copy of the insurance card.
Co-payments are due at the time of service. If you have not yet met your annual deductible, you may be responsible for full visit charges at the contracted fee.
For your convenience, we also accept Cash and major Credit cards.
After having your baby, please add your newborn to your insurance policy as soon as possible.
While most insurance companies allow a grace period up to 30 days after birth, some will deny claims if you don’t sign your newborn up in time.

Please remember it is your responsibility to notify us of any changes to your insurance policy to avoid billing mistakes.
This allows us to work together, and make sure your insurance carrier handles claims accurately, and to avoid it ultimately becoming your responsibility.
For billing questions, a Billing specialist is at (858)487-8333 extn. 110 or the Office Manager at extn. 125 are at your service.
We accept checks, cash or credit cards. We also offer a flexible payment plan. Please see our Financial Coordinator for details. We are happy to file insurance for your reimbursement as long as you are free to choose your own pediatrician.
Appointments. We request that you call and make an appointment before you are seen. To make an appointment, please call (858) 487-8333 between the hours of 8:30 am to noon or between 1:30 pm to 5pm on Mondays through Fridays. We are also open on Saturday mornings from 8:30 am until noon (hours may vary based on seasonal needs). Please call early for sick visits so that we can try our best to schedule you the same day. Please call ahead for well checkups/camp and sports physicals.
Remember – If you feel you are having a life-threatening emergency, please call 911 immediately.
After Hours Help. If you have an urgent concern regarding your child’s health after hours, you may reach the physician on call at (858) 484-4003. We take our own call 24/7 and have no answering service. Please use this service for urgent calls only. This service is meant to assist patients who are very sick and may require emergency care. Please save routine, non-emergency questions for our regular office hours. Our website has very useful information under the Patient Education section that should help answer most common concerns. If you don’t hear back from the physician on call within 15 minutes, please call back. Again, for minor issues and routine prescription refills, please wait for regular office hours to call us.
Specialty Referrals. Most insurance plans require us to see a child and evaluate the health concern before we can make a referral. After evaluation in the office, our staff will assist you in the referral process. For ongoing specialty care, we will also assist you but suggest that you give us ample notice to help you before making an appointment with the specialist.
Prescription Refills. If your child was recently treated in the office and hasn’t improved, please make a follow up visit for a re-exam. For patients who are on long term medications, its best for the pharmacy to fax us a refill request to fax number (858) 487-0856. You may also call and leave a message with the nursing staff or pediatrician. Please remember to include the child’s name and spelling, date of birth, name of the medication and current dosage instructions, and a contact number for you and the pharmacy. We handle refill requests throughout the day based on priority. For chronic medical conditions like asthma, allergies, seizures, diabetes, attention deficit disorder or conditions that require long term maintenance antibiotics, we require periodic office visits to monitor the condition and make sure that the child is doing well before we can refill prescriptions. Your child’s pediatrician will review this with you at the time of the visit.

We do not require you to pre-register with our office for newborn care. Simply notify the labor and delivery staff when you arrive at the hospital that you would like our doctors to see the newborn and we will be happy to check the baby after the birth. After our evaluation, we will also help you to arrange for follow up in our office. If your baby is born at another local hospital but you are following up in our office, please ask the attending doctor to provide you with birth records for the initial visit.
